The blues made the long trip to Aberdeen. With some call offs the blues travelled with a tight squad. After the national competition stages the blue have moved into the ‘local’ Caley competition - which see them playing Shetland, Caithness and Aberdeen amongst others!
The Blues looked up for the game, straight from the warm up. Aberdeen were a big physical team and were shocked by the nature of the blues tackling, being knocked down each time, with the blues tenacious in defence.
After 3 mins Euan O picked up and drive off the back of the scrum to skittle defenders and score under the posts. Charlie converting.
On 12 mins - good driving runs from Noah, Ewan A and Jason pushed the blues up the park. A clearing kick from Aberdeen was recovered by Euan M, who ran from his own half to be pulled down inches short. Recycled ball reached the midfield, where hooker turned centre (for the day) Deryn to score.
Ole VR was carrying the ball well for the blues into contact and William S knocking down all the runners in midfield.
After 25 mins Matthew picked and dived into the corner for a nice score.
Then a good run up the wing from Adam set up good field position. Alyx, not to be outdone by his brother, had a wee 'goosey' before bumping an opposing player. The ball was moved wide and the blues looked certain to score, but some last gasp defending from Aberdenn kept them at bay.
On 30mins, Matthew had an identical score to his first, after the blues worked the ball through the phases from their own half. Great conversion out wide from Charlie.
At the start of the second half the blues were under pressure and some stout defending kept their line intact.
A yellow card for Innis for a ruck infringement saw the blues a player down for 10 mins. The blues again gave as good as they got but Aberdeen eventually made good their player advantage and scored under the posts.
Restored to full numbers the blues camped in the Aberdeen 22. Some good line breaks from Donald and runs from Ewan A, Euan M and big carries from Matthew and Innis saw the blues push towards the line. A quick scrum pick, saw the blues captain Euan O picked up and drive over from 10m.
The blues continued to push for more points and Matthew looked to be in for a hat-trick, before selflessly passing to a team mate. A small knock on prevented the score.
Huge thanks to all the blues parents that made the journey to Aberdeen, with a larger away support than home. A good performance from the whole squad, who have a free Sunday next week, before the cup returns the following week.
