On a bright sunny day perfect for open rugby, Kirkcaldy 2nds showed from the first minute that they intended to make their mark on this game when Sandy Thomson went over for the first try which was unconverted. Within the next 15 minutes McKenzie Galloway demonstrated his speed by scoring two tries with his scorching pace, one of which was converted by Ethan Murray.
As Perthshire lay siege to the home try line, Kirkcaldy’s defence held firm as the visitors wasted opportunities to score. Kirkcaldy scored a further two tries from Cairn MacDonald and Chris Sawares both converted by Ethan Murray to give the Blues a comfortable 31-0 lead.
The second half, with Kirkcaldy attacking the pond end, was similar to the first with Kirkcaldy doing the scoring and Perthshire continuing to waste their opportunities. Further tries came from Ed Barron, Cairn MacDonald, Rory Mill, Ethan Murray, McKenzie Galloway to complete his hat-trick, and veteran David Foster. Ethan Murray converted four of these tries to bring the final score to 69-0
This was a great result on the return of the seconds. There were a good few players who will press for a 1st XV place as the season progresses. McKenzie Galloway certainly showed his pace, while Ethan Murray showed some neat little kicks and some long, well flighted kicks and controlled the game well.
The team in general showed a lot of pace and will be a team to be reckoned with as the season goes on if they can continue in a similar vein for the rest of the season.
