Kirkcaldy welcomed Lasswade to Beveridge Park under dull skies for the first game of 2025, both sides last playing six weeks ago.
The visitors were looking for revenge after losing by a point in October’s reverse fixture, and showed they meant business by scoring an excellent team try to lead 7-0 with just over a minute on the clock.
Kirkcaldy came back into the game but Lasswade's defence held firm and denied scoring opportunities, a penalty kicked by Finlay Smith the only reward after 20 minutes.
After a break for an injury the Midlothian side kept Kirkcaldy in their own 22 and eventually crossed the try line after initially being held up.
However the Blues quickly hit back from a midfield scrum, as Smith made a break and offloaded to Timmy Kennedy who ran in under the posts to make it 10-12. This gave them hope but when the visitors attacked, they did so with menace and always looked able to cross the line.
Lasswade exerted further pressure and extended their lead again after Callum Kennedy was sin-binned just before the break, 10-19 at half time.
This hard fought game continued in the second half, as the Blues survived their time with 14 men. But from an attacking position in the opposition 22, Kirkcaldy lost the ball and were soon further behind as Lasswade claimed the try bonus point with their fourth.
The Blues responded with Captain Finlay Smith running on to an offload from Scott Anderson a few metres, converting his own try to make it 17-26 at the hour mark.
With just over 10 minutes to play Lasswade added a penalty and defended well to prevent Kirkcaldy from taking anything from the match.
Both sides remain as they were in the National 2 table, Kirkcaldy 4th and Lasswade 6th but with a narrowed gap.
