Kirkcaldy 2nd XV 15 Dundee University 55

The Blues 2s began their league campaign against the reigning Scottish University Champions. With the knock on effect from the clubs injury problems having a huge impact on the 2s this was always going to be a hard game.

Some new faces and some older faces were brought together in what turned out to be a very spirited performance.

The students were the better team throughout with some strong running and cunning play at the breakdown area. The Blues 2s were quickly 22 points down before Hancock scored his first points for the 2s with a penalty and was unlucky not to get more reward when put into space after good work by his forwards. Half time Kirkcaldy 2XV 3 v 29 Dundee Uni.

The second half was much more competitive with the home pack probably just taking the advantage and keeping the visitors in their own half for long periods. A couple of tries came from hard graft and by keeping possession allowing Wilson to barge over and Castle-Smith to score a cheeky we try from a tap penalty. The University tries were long range efforts with good handling and support.

Overall although the score ended Kirkcaldy 2XV 15 v 55 Dundee Uni it wasn’t all doom. With more commitment to training and fitness things will pick up.
