Kirkcaldy 2XV 10 Dalziel 2XV 25

If last weeks game was play ugly but win, then this week was play ugly and get nothing. Dalziel were the better team for most of the game, the home side only really playing in short bursts. The visitors started brightly and after sustained pressure were awarded an easy penalty. It took a full 25 minutes before Kirkcaldy played any sort of decent rugby. Porter making a good break and well supported by McNabb before getting on the end of the scoring pass to burst through under the posts.

The home side's set piece just didn't function well all day and it was Dalziel who took advantage from the touchline to score the first of their 4 tries. Kirkcaldy did respond well to this and Gilmour struck a penalty to go into half time with a 10-8 lead.

Lack of control at scrum and lineout meant that Kirkcaldy were always living off scraps. Dalziel made a change at outside-half and it was he who then controlled the game with some excellent tactical kicking, giving them good field position which they used well to score a further 3 tries. The lack of discipline came back to haunt Kirkcaldy and they had to play 30 minutes with 14 men. Injuries to the front row meant that the props could not be rotated throughout the game and a hard shift was put in by the 2 starters. Although the last 10 minutes were better and Davies was given just enough space to get over the try line, he unfortunately lost the ball in the act of scoring. Final score Kirkcaldy2XV 10 v 25 Dalziel 2XV.

Much more numbers are needed at training so that all the moves, structure and fitness are worked on during the week and not only on Saturday's.
