Kirkcaldy Ladies 32 Howe Harlequins 7

The game started brightly for Kirkcaldy receiving the ball from the kick off and they were soon applying pressure in the Howe half. With early season errors from both sides it was a tight affair, with Kirkcaldy looking for the breakthrough and Howe defending well. Eventually Kirkcaldy were able to create a little space down the blind side, Captain Brogan took off towards the try line, scoring the first of three tries for the afternoon. Her second came shortly after, it was a similar jinky run in. Just before half time Howe got the ball and looked strong in attack, a scrambling Blues defence was able to hold Howe out.Half time – Kirkcaldy 10 Howe 0

With the rain getting heavier the second half was similar to the first with Brogan scoring her third try after a well worked team move. Howe were still challenging but, Kirkcaldy’s fourth try came from a patient build up and multiple phases before the backs became involved, this time Brogan slipped the ball to Laing who ran in to score. The try of the day came soon after and was made by the front row union. A storming 20m run from prop Cockburn, support play by hooker Cooper, who cleared the ruck to supply a quick ‘pop’ pass to Small, to complete the set. Small didn’t quite have the legs to run in so she offloaded to supporting player Milne who fell over the line to score.

Howe scored a converted try soon after, however Kirkcaldy weren’t finished as Cockburn made yet another barnstorming 40 metre run, and this time she was able to make the line and score her first try for the club. The conversion made the final score 32-7. As well as a bonus point win there was great team spirit and effort shown today by the ladies. Special mention to Jenna, Caitlin and Ellie making their club debuts.
