Kirkcaldy 2XV 69 Grangemouth 2XV 5
The Blues2s earned their first win of the season with some fast free flowing rugby. The mixture of enthusiastic youth gelling with the experience of first XV players was evident from the start.
Only 3 minutes played and Duckett was over for the first try of the game. Mitchell then ripped the ball from a maul, fed it to Bonner who made a fine break and linked with Chris Hugh to dot down for try no.2.
Mitchell was next to score after a good lineout move gave him space to power over. Cammy Geddes, who had his best game for the 2s, scored a well deserved try, and the teams bonus point victory looked assured after only 25 mins .
A superb handling movement gave Bonner the first of his 4 tries, great hands and running lines from Castle-Smith, Milne and Raeside, making it easy for him to dot down. 36 minutes played and with a typical Watson break and score the home side had 36 points on the board.
Just before half time Grangemouth managed to exert a bit of pressure and combined with a lack of concentration from the home side, scored a try of their own. Half time Kirkcaldy 36 v 5 Grangemouth.
Grangemouth were now encouraged a bit, and with the game being played staccato style, the home side struggled to find the same pace which was so evident in the opening half. It was not until the final 15 minutes that the chances being created were finished off. Milne, Hancock, Watson and 3 Bonner tries combined with the Hancock conversions taking the final score up to Kirkcaldy 2xv 69 v 5 Grangemouth 2XV.
Overall some great individual performances combined with some good support running and structured play made this the springboard off which to launch their season.
