The Kirkcaldy 2xv were at home this week against Arbroath and produced another free flowing display of running rugby. Unfortunately Arbroath had no trained front row so the scrums had to played uncontested. This scenario just meant that the Kirkcaldy front row could use their strength in loose play rather than at scrum time. Frew opened the scoring after 8 minutes with the experienced Tasker adding another 2 minutes later.

Salmond, playing his first game for the 2s, was having a strong game on the wing and was unlucky on a couple of occasions not to score a try but did manage to slot 3 conversions. The Blues2s were moving the ball well and with the interplay of backs and forwards Arbroath were chasing shadows. Frew scored his second, the fleet footed Watson and the strong running of Lowe added further tries before the hard working Graham finished off the first half scoring. Half time Kirkcaldy 2xv 34 v 0 Arbroath.

The second half was played in the same manner and pace as the first. Turner scored a quick fire 3 tries before a dead leg took its toll. Lowe got his hat-trick and Sheilds added another. Concentration then lapsed a wee bit and the biggest cheer from the crowd was reserved for the Arbroath flanker who strolled in for a try aided by some woefull attempts to tackle him fell way short of the standards required or expected. Overall it was a pleasing performance with both backs and forwards playing at a good pace and linking well. There is a good balance in the squad with pace, power, youth and experience all playing their part. The leagues should be reshaped now with stronger opposition waiting for us in the remainder of the season. Final score Kirkcaldy 2xv 70 v 7 Arbroath.
