Ever improving 2nd XV Print E-mail

The Blues2s were keen to build on last weeks’ success, and with another good squad assembled, confidence was high. The game started well with the backs moving the ball wide giving Geddes space to score after 2 minutes.

The next 25 minutes would become extremely frustrating for both players and coaches. Space was being created but not being seen or used. Forwards and backs began to look for the contact area rather that simply running into the spaces. The second try did eventually come after 28 minutes. A lineout steal followed by some swift handling putting Watson clear on the opposite side of the pitch to run in to double the score. Over eagerness in defence gave Montrose an easy 3 points to close the first half scoring. Half time Montrose 3 v 10 Kirkcaldy 2xv.

The second half began the same as the first with Kirkcaldy moving the ball well allowing fullback Littlejohn to score. Both Raeside and Low were creating problems for the home side with their strong but elusive running. The whole team began to gel, with both backs and forwards linking well and using the space, rather than just looking to hit-up. Kilgour was next to score with a strong run and added his second minutes later, after good offloading opened up the home defence. Montrose stuck to their task and were rewarded with a try of their own following some good pressure. Raeside again took control of the game and his prompting gave Keltie an easy run to the line. The strong running Low got his try and 2 further Littlejohn tries ended the scoring. Final score Montrose 10 v 51 Kirkcaldy 2XV

Another good second half performance by a young, improving squad who are learning as the season goes on. Every player is important and more good training sessions will create even more understanding amongst the squad.
