2s back on top! Print E-mail

The 2s headed over to Grangemouth in this pre-arranged double header knowing that a bonus point win would put them back on top albeit having played 1 more game than their nearest rivals.
Although the weather conditions were not exactly ideal for free flowing rugby it was up there with one of the best performances of the season.
With the toss won and the decision to receive from kick off, the game got underway.
As you can imagine with the rain pouring from the sky and pools of water on the pitch it took both teams some time to get used to the conditions.
It was the Blues 2s however that got to grips first and dominated most of the day.
The first try came around 20mins from captain for the day M. Graham. Cleverly taking a quick tap penalty and using the conditions to slide in from 5 meters. J. Moffat missed conversion 5-0.
The second try wasn't long after. G. Wallace on one of his typical rampaging runs split the defence to power over the line. J. Moffat missed conversion 10-0.
Grangemouth were awarded a penalty for their efforts which was pushed just wide.
Half Time Grangemouth 2s 0 - 10 Kirkcaldy 2s
Although having a bad day off the tee J. Moffat's positional kicking was exceptional. Having cleared the lines the 2s forced an error from Grangemouth. After moving the ball around J. Moffat latched onto a spilled ball and managed to sneak his way through the defence scoring near the posts missing his conversion. 15-0.
The 2s knew another try would seal the bonus point victory and were relieved to finally get it around 63mins. J. Watson putting on the afterburners to out pace a few and dot down near the posts. Converted by R. Lowe. 22-0.
The fifth and final try came from a training ground line out G. Wallace and M. Anderson combining well (sort of) for Anderson to slink over. R. Lowe missed conversion 27-0.
Everyone played their part in a great result with A. Thomson's ball stealing ability & R. Castle-Smith marshalling standing out. Everyone left the field soaked through and freezing cold but happy with the days work.
The 2s only have 3 games left and need everyone possible to turn up so that this great season ends on a high.
