Glenrothes 2xv 26 v 64 Kirkcaldy 2XV

The Blues2s made the shortest of away trips to Glenrothes this week for this league game. After a good weeks training much was expected from the strong squad.

The home side started the stronger with some good work at the breakdown allowing them to get their backs moving. Both teams were losing the ball in contact and was from a turnover that Man of the Match Raeside scored under the posts after being put in open space. This should have settled Kirkcaldy down but instead it merely spurred on Glenrothes who scored 2 quick tries to take the lead.

Castle- Smith drew Kirkcaldy level and with Hancock’s conversion the lead changed again. Some slack defence allowed the Glenrothes 10 to weave through under the posts for a simple 7 pointer. Kirkcaldy had the final say of the half when Brookes streaked away down his wing to level the score at half time 19 v 19.

A raft of changes were made at half time with the aim of defusing the home sides kicking game and keeping the ball a bit tighter. This had the desired effect with Wilson scoring twice before McNabb added another all converted by Raeside to ease Kirkcaldy into a relatively safe position. The home side responded with a well taken score by their winger who slid in at the corner, for his teams deserved bonus point. The Brooke brothers were having a busy but constructive game fielding Glenrothes’s kicking game and returning mostly with interest. The structure that returned to Kirkcaldy produced 4 further tries, each one following some good set piece work and the ball being kept alive. Wilson completing his hat-trick, Duckett with a show and go from 25 mtrs out and Low getting the final 2 with good strong runs to make the final score Glenrothes 2XV 26 v 64 Kirkcaldy 2XV.

A decent performance from the Blues2s with some good stuff played. Glenrothes made it difficult and never gave up but the fresher legs and strong running of the Kirkcaldy squad was the difference in the end.
