Kirkcaldy 2xv 41 v 8 Bannockburn

The Blues2s got their league campaign back on track with a comfortable, but very scrappy win at home against a determined Bannockburn team. The Blues forwards had the upper hand all day and with a wee bit more composure in the final 10mtrs, the score should have been a bit more one-sided.

Straight from the start pressure was put on the visitors and Brookes took advantage of space on the blindside to score. Walker added another with a strong run from 10 mtrs out crashing over near the posts. Bannockburn gave themselves a small glimmer of hope with a well kicked penalty, before good handling after a clean lineout take created space for Anderson to dot down for the Blues 3rd try. Castle-Smith converting well from the touchline. The backs were also running strong and with Castle-Smith varying his game well, spaces and opportunities were made if not always taken. Walker scored his second with a carbon copy of his first before some slack defence let Bannockburn in for a try to make the half time score 24 v 8.

The second half became an increasingly frustrating affair. An early try should have settled the team and allow the game plan to work and bed in but Bannockburn were sticking to their task and making things really difficult at the breakdown area, slowing the ball down and not allowing the quick clean ball the backs were needing. The Blues2s reverted to a forwards battle, Berry , Graham, Low and Geddes all being held up over the line. After more hard graft by his team mates, Mitchell scored a flop over on his return to rugby. Bannockburn never gave up and their rampaging flanker added another try before their centre crossed again. The home side were to have the final say though, a searing break by Hancock left his would be chasers grasping at air to allow him to score a well deserved try.

Final score Kirkcaldy 2XV 41 v 8 Bannockburn .

There were some good individual performances and a lot of strong running in the game and although 7 tries were scored and the result was never really in doubt, its hard to be too happy when so many opportunities were created but not taken.
