Today saw the 2s take on Blairgowrie who were only 1 point behind in this top of the table clash.
Blairgowrie started sharpest and looked ready to give the 2s a torrid day. 8mins in and after much defending the 2s conceded a penalty which was easily kicked 0-3.
On the 15min mark the 2s, very much against the run of play stole a try, the hard running C. Mann hit a great line to burst his way to the line 5-3.
2mins later however and the 2s fell behind again when Blairgowrie hit back with a try of their own. 5-8.
The next 10mins saw Blairgowrie continue the onslaught missing a penalty but converting another. 5-11.
A scrum for the Blues in front of the posts was reversed for back chat and then at the next breakdown the 2s were further penalised. Having felt hard done by S. Oliver protested which resulted in him seeing yellow and on his was off the pitch confusion set for some when the red card was also produced for the same player. The 2s had to see the next 50mins with 14.
Few could have imagined how strong and spirited a performance this would end up being.
A couple minutes later and again C. Mann rampaged his way over the line this time converted by A. Raeside. 12-11. From the kick off great work between backs and forwards and some amazing offloading almost seen the 2s score again, just being tackled to touch.
45mins gone and the 2s scored again this time through R. Lowe with one of his weaving runs unlocking the defence. 17-11.
Playing with some style and confidence the 2s continued with the vigorous attack that again seen R. Lowe cross the line but was adjudged to be held up.
Around the 54min mark after some quick hands winger M. Brookes stormed down the left to beat a few and score near the posts. Not converted 22-11.
60mins and the scoring continued. A. Raeside, who deserved a try, scored under the posts. Converted by R. Hancock. 29-11.
For the third time in the match R. Lowe crossed the line and for the 2nd time was adjudged to be held up.
70mins and the scoring was wrapped up with M. Duckett latching onto quick ball to arrow across the line. 34-11.
C. Dryburgh came very close to make it 7 tries but was just short.
Full time 34-11
Man of the match this week was unanimous, if it wasn't for S. Oliver being sent off the 2s may not have upped the game. Well done Olly.
It was a great game to play in with what I'm sure will be many sore bodies for days to come.
To go 50mins with 14, shut out the opposition during that time and get the bonus point shows the 2s are a force to be reckoned with.
Away trip to Dundee Uni next week and if the 2s win, the league will be in their own hands for the first time.
